In 1981 Jon Ewing founded Landtrends, Inc. The company grew into one of Southern California's leading Landscape Construction and Maintenance firms with over 1000 employees and offices in San Diego as well as Las Vegas, Nevada. The firm offered the area's premier Sports Turf Division with clients including:

In 1993, Jon and his brother Tom Co-Founded, Miramar Wholesale Nurseries, Inc. The Nursery acquired Vista Hill Nursery in 1996, and became the Largest Wholesale Nursery in San Diego.

Both operations were sold to a public company and leading national consolidator of landscape service companies in 1998.
In 2004, Jon worked as a special consultant to the San Diego Padres directly responsible for developing a landscape maintenance program for PETCO Park. This included developing their Integrated Pest Management Plan, contractor selection and bidding process, etc.
In 2005 Jon and his brother Tom acquired Butler's Mill, Inc. Butler's specialized in the sale of horticultural wholesale supplies. In tandem, TurfFirst was founded as a division of Butler's. The TurfFirst operations include:

In 2007, both operations we sold to a public company.
Experience:
- Participated in developing, operating, and selling four successful companies.
- Significant horticultural, entrepreneurial, marketing, motivational, negotiating, and sales experience.
- Business operations included multiple sites and out of state operations.
- Orchestrated and/or participated in numerous business acquisitions.
- Developed and marketed Training Manuals sold nationally.
- Served as a business consultant to a national business organization.
- Joint venture developer of numerous single family and multi family developments.
- San Diego Padres consultant for PETCO Park. Responsible for developing their landscape maintenance guidelines, Integrated Pest Management Plan, and assisting in vendor selection.
